Contour You is proud to be able to sponsor men and women who compete in various phases of physique competition. Whether you are interested in figure, bikini, physique, fitness or bodybuilding competitions, we are helping you create the body you desire. This is our mission statement, and these athletes represent the ultimate examples of people who are striving to become the best physically that they can be. Though this is certainly not the goal of most of our patients, we appreciate the hard work and the dedication these athletes have brought to their sport.
We spoke with one of our Sponsored Athlete Carolyn Griffiths to learn more about Figure Competitions and the important role CoolSculpting plays in her successes.
I competed in the Figure Classes. I was second place in the Figure Masters Division, third in the Figure Novice Division, and fourth in the Figure Open Division.
I have had primarily an aerobic-focused athletic history. I ran cross country and track in high school. I ran middle-distance at Glendale Community College. Since then I have continued to compete in cycling, marathons and triathlons.
A good friend of mine competes. She invited me to watch her in events over the last few years. I appreciated what these athletes were achieving with their bodies. My competitive side got the best of me, and I decided I could achieve that level of development myself!
I will compete in the 2015 NPC USA Pacific Championships in San Diego. I will again enter the Figure Classes. This one is very motivating for me, because my two friends and I are going head-to-head on stage this time! It has been a great motivator for me to train even harder.
A lot of the competitors are quite muscular. I have never wanted that look for myself. However, as we diet down to low body fat levels, it is hard to maintain the lean body mass we have trained hard to build. It is impossible to be in competition form year around. Therefore, all of us go through these fluctuations. In addition, as we diet down to unusually low body fat levels, our metabolism rates drop. Our bodies try to maintain our normal weight. So, by the time the event arrives, we look great but our energy levels tend to be lower than normal.
Everyone has areas of fat that are particularly difficult to lose. CoolSculpting helps to target the fat loss in those areas. It should make the contest preparation and dieting process easier. I hope that it will also make it easier to maintain the lean body mass gains during that dieting-down phase.
We have a family foundation that focuses on fund-raising for various charities. It is called the “Uphill Into The Wind Foundation.” I’m very involved in it, and we have raised over $400k for 11 different charities. We have a bike loaner program to support people who want to ride in charity cycling events, but otherwise could not afford to do it. Our biggest events that we are involved with are the Tour de Tucson each fall and Tour de Mesa in the spring.
